Violent Hill is the epicenter for adrenaline junkies and conspiracy theorists. Whispers of unethical experiments having been performed on patients excite those obsessed with the macabre and taboo, driving countless illegal visitors to the estate each year. Violent Hill is a must-see for ghost-hunters, but the spirits left behind might be more dangerous than any theory or crumbling building
Now, Jessica and a small group of unlikely acquaintances find themselves trapped in the ill-fated estate while trying to locate their missing friend. Up until tonight, Jessica has been happy to ignore her sixth sense. But to find her friend, she will have to overcome her fear of ghosts and embrace her special ability. She will also have to choose how much she is willing to uncover about the horrific past and decide who is worthy of her trust—including a mysterious man found wandering the halls. If she fails, her friend may be lost forever. If she succeeds, she may wake something better left undisturbed.
The inspiration behind Violent Hill
Fairfield Hills psychiatric hospital opened in 1933 to help alleviate the overcrowding in neighboring counties. It consisted of sixteen buildings on one-hundred acres of land, surrounded by more than six-hundred acres of farm and woods. Underground tunnels connected the buildings for easy transportation in inclement weather.
After closing its doors for good in 1995, Fairfield Hills transformed some of its buildings to better serve the community, including a municipal center and a brew house. (I even took my driving test here!)
About the Author
Johanna Pagani has been published in Musings Journal of Arts for her short story “The Meal” and her script “Ghost House”. She’s based in New England where the inspiration for Violent Hill is located. When she is not writing, she can be found watching ghost shows or reading under the supervision of her two cats Henry and Jersey. She enjoys a good book, a trip to the beach, and, of course, all things spooky.
